Corosolic acid has numerous biological properties, including antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative, and protein kinase C inhibition activity. However, there is a lack of clinical evidence to support these uses.
Corosolic Acid is an extract from the leaves of a plant called the Lagerstroemia speciosa. This is a native Asian plant and is found in India, the Philippines and the Southeastern part of Asia. The plant has white and purple flowers. Corosolic Acid can also be extracted from other plants and these plants include the Campsis Grandiflora, the Weiglea Subsessilis, the Perilla Frutescens and the Almond Hull. This ingredient is believed to be beneficial in treating type 2 diabetes because it may possess the ability to reduce glucose levels. This has only been tested in mice so it is unclear how effective it may be in humans. Corosolic Acid may also be beneficial in lowering the blood pressure as well as burning fat. This has not been proven either in humans and has so far only been tested in mice. It is also believed to have powerful antioxidant properties. It may help to neutralize free radical, promote healthy kidney function and prevent cell membrane lipid oxidation. There has been no toxicity reported with Corosolic Acid, but there are still tests being done to confirm this.
Corosolic acid is called phyto-insulin or insulin-like principle because of its ability to aid in blood sugar regulation. It can be a good tool in the management of healthy blood sugar levels. New research even shows it actually helps with weight and body fat loss! Dosages range from 16-48 mg daily with meals.
